G,

Are you willing to share the new spreadsheet you using. Is it your new trading journal?

Thanks,

Peter,
It does sound like a lot! :) The point I wanted to make is I will not be doing straddles, strangle and diagonal trades where my lack of experience prevents active management, creating a losing situation. I want to focus on the trades I understand how to identify and then get very good at managing those.

Best,
G$

Hey G$,

"From now on, I will be focused more on naked puts, calendars, butterflies, bull put spreads and bear call spreads."

That sounds like nearly everything!!! What else is there?

Bon,
This trade was more of a backtest experiment. It was placed the same morning after the earnings announcement. You are right. Typically, I have not seen any difference in the overall bias of the trade. The overall debit allows you to have comfortable breakeven ranges both on the upside and downside. As long as the volatility crushes AND the stock stays in your breakeven ranges, you are good. The problem with this trade is that real money trades found the fills to be very difficult or not happening at all due to the complexity of the trade and the high variance in the bid/ask. Did I answer your questions?

Best,

SB,
The difference between the strike prices is $1. When I first placed the trade, I got into a bear call spread for a credit of .20. I think placed a bull put spread and received an additional credit of .30. Since this is a credit type of trade (margin based), you do not have it count twice. So my profit is calculated the following way: (Total Initial Credit - Debit) / ((Difference in Strike Prices) - Total Initial Credit). Make sense?

How did you get a 50% return on this Iron Condor? Are you calculating the % of your original credit?

Gariel,
Unfortunately, I went with with the June 10 Calls and June 7.5 Puts. I got burned quite bad on the trade and have learned some important lessons, which I plan to share closer to June expiration. The trade you mentioned would have been much more appropriate!

Was this butterfly is bought few days before earning anouncment date or day after the earning announcement day ? I am assuming it is placed on the day after the earning announcement date as vol crush would happen on after earning announcement and you stated that you got out the same day. The butterfly had a slightly bullish bias ( that the stock would move towards $50). And stock did move in that direction the next day.
Would this trade had been profitable had the the stock moved in the opposite direction (going down) instead of going up ?

Thanks

You meant the 7.5 calls and the 5 puts right? Or did you take this trade on awhile ago?

Chad,
These are all paper fills. That is correct. You can see some of the live trades by joining the inner circle at Insanemoney.com. The monthly fee is approx $99.
